Early Cancer Detection Technology Developer

Basic Information

Cleveland Diagnostics is developing technology to detect early-stage cancer (which can be treated and cured). It adopts an "out-of-the-box" approach to detecting cancer early. Most laboratories rely on the overall expression of biomarkers, which are typically proteins often overexpressed in the context of cancer. However, some non-cancerous diseases may also cause overexpression of these biomarkers, leading to frequent false positives. For example, PSA, a biomarker used for prostate cancer screening, can also be overexpressed due to benign conditions such as inflammation, benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary tract infections, or even common activities like cycling. Our earliest method of detecting cancer is not just about determining the overall expression of these biomarkers but identifying their origin. We have developed proprietary technology to isolate protein structures, allowing us to study proteins based on their structure rather than concentration.
