Betalin Therapeutics is a biotech company developing a micro-pancreas for the treatment of diabetes. Betalin Therapeutics' micro-pancreas, named "Endocrine Micro-Pancreas" (EMP™), is engineered using a proprietary biological scaffold and can incorporate human islets containing β cells. β cells are responsible for producing insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels by facilitating the transfer of glucose from the bloodstream into adjacent cells. The EMP can be implanted subcutaneously into diabetic patients and is expected to integrate with the patient’s body through vascularization.
