Medical Cannabis Production and Sales Company

Basic Information

Delta 9 was founded in 2012 by the father-son team of Bill and John Arbuthnot and became the fourth licensed medical cannabis producer in Canada in March 2014. After thorough preparation, Delta 9 went public on Monday, November 6, 2017, trading as a Tier 2 Industrial Issuer on the TSX Venture Exchange (“TSXV”), with the initial stock symbol “NINE,” which was later changed to “DN” in July 2019.By 2018, Delta 9 had a well-established 80,000-square-foot production facility in East Winnipeg, growing its workforce from 2 to 150 employees. The company also exercised its option to purchase the 47 contiguous lots where its existing facility is located, along with an additional 180,000 square feet of warehouse space to accommodate its rapid expansion. Upon legalization, Delta 9 was one of four licensed producers to be granted permission to operate retail cannabis stores in Manitoba through a rigorous RFP process. With plans to open two retail stores by 2019, this is only the beginning, as Delta 9 aims to open 20 retail locations across Manitoba by 2021. Under an agreement with the Manitoba government for 2.1 million grams annually, in addition to major supply agreements with Auxly Cannabis and Canopy Growth, Delta 9 appears poised for profitability. Beyond supply agreements, Delta 9 has also partnered with Westleaf in Alberta to establish new production facilities and secured an exclusive master license from Nanosphere Health Sciences to provide nanotechnology delivery systems for Canadian cannabis. This license also allows them to sublicense to other retailers, offering cutting-edge technology. Delta 9’s business is budding—pun intended. While Delta 9 primarily focuses on large-scale, hand-crafted cultivation, hand-trimmed, high-quality cannabis strains, currently offering over 20 genetically unique strains, its growth is not limited to cultivation alone. Delta 9 also provides full start-up materials and support to new and existing licensed producers. From Genetics (plants) and Grow Pods to consulting services, Delta 9 helps other LPs get started while providing the company with additional revenue streams.Delta 9’s proprietary Grow Pod system offers another unique revenue channel for the company. These modular, scalable, stackable, ready-made boxes are now available for purchase. The Grow Pod system utilizes Delta 9’s standardized hydroponic growth methods while allowing complete climate control and vertical space utilization, incorporating built-in risk mitigation measures. Vertical space utilization can double or triple production space as Grow Pods can be stacked on top of each other, limited only by ceiling height. Standalone Grow Pods prevent the spread of contaminants like mites or powdery mildew, avoiding catastrophic and costly crop failures. Though economically produced at their facility, the Pods create significant profit potential for the company. This fully vertically integrated growth strategy will allow Delta 9 to fill its existing production facility with over 600 pods, increasing its production capacity to 17,000 kilograms of premium-grade cannabis by 2020 and creating 300 new jobs in Manitoba. The future of Delta 9 Cannabis Inc. is green.
