Basic Information
Compaq Computer Corporation is an American computer company founded in 1982, now a brand name of HP. The company was established by Rod Canion, Jim Harris, and Bill Murto (former senior managers at Texas Instruments). The name "COMPAQ" originates from "Compatibility and Quality," as it produced some of the first IBM PC-compatible computers. As the world's largest supplier of personal computing systems, Compaq existed as an independent company until its merger with Hewlett-Packard in 2002.
