The nanoparticles are injected into tumors prior to standard radiotherapy and are used to enhance treatment efficacy by amplifying the dose of free radicals generated by X-rays. The nanoparticles are based on titanium dioxide, a common non-toxic semiconductor material. Xerion Healthcare is currently developing treatments for head and neck as well as pancreatic tumors.
