Akonni Biosystems is a molecular diagnostics company dedicated to developing, manufacturing, and selling advanced genetic testing equipment for complex infections and human health conditions, such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB), and influenza subtyping with oseltamivir resistance detection. Our approach is based on the evolved gel-drop microarray platform, which includes rapid, low-cost diagnostic tests and portable test readers for point-of-care testing. We will also offer high-throughput screening systems based on our gel-drop microarray technology, capable of performing millions of tests annually. Our products will provide physicians, clinicians, nurse practitioners, other healthcare providers, and ultimately consumers with enhanced capabilities to diagnose diseases and assess health conditions. With Akonni's platform, they can identify a broader range of diseases faster and more accurately at a lower overall cost compared to today’s real-time PCR, microarray, or immunoassay methods. The company primarily focuses on sample preparation, microfluidic devices, bioinstruments, and integrated systems. Product development has been supported by a series of government grants and contracts from NIH, CDC, DOE, DOD, NIJ, and NSF. By enhancing system functionality from sample preparation to test results, Akonni has significantly advanced the original technology. Recent commercial products in Akonni’s pipeline include rapid sample preparation technology for nucleic acid extraction and applications in pharmacogenomics, human chronic diseases (e.g., cancer and neurodegenerative diseases).
