Basic Information

Regend Therapeutics, a regenerative medicine group, was founded in 2015 by a team of returned overseas doctoral scientists led by national specially-appointed experts, Yangtze River Scholars, and chief scientists of key R&D programs. With the goal of "recreating life and reshaping health," the company focuses on the field of organ regeneration using precursor cells to address unmet clinical needs that traditional treatments cannot satisfy, leading humanity toward the great dream of "regenerative medicine allowing life to set sail anew." The group’s proprietary epithelial tissue precursor cell technology (referred to as "R-Clone technology") is a domestic first and internationally leading innovation. This unique technology has formed a common technical platform with multiple technological barriers, including micro-tissue separation, specialized culture medium formulation, feeder layer cell purification, in vitro bioactivity testing, and non-cryogenic transportation. Successful precursor cell sources developed so far include the liver, lungs, trachea, esophagus, stomach, intestines, uterus, prostate, pancreas, and ovaries. The group's R&D team has published numerous research findings in prestigious international academic journals such as Nature, Cell, and Protein & Cell, and holds more than ten core patents. The lung precursor cell preparation REGEND001, independently developed by the group, is a globally pioneering First-in-class drug and currently the only lung regenerative medicine product. In July 2020 and June 2021, it received two clinical trial approvals from China’s National Medical Products Administration for treating early- and mid-stage idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with impaired lung diffusion capacity. These approvals mark both projects entering Phase II clinical trials. Both projects are led by top clinical teams in China: the IPF project is in collaboration with Peking Union Medical College Hospital, with Professor Zuo-Jun Xu, a chief physician in respiratory medicine, serving as the principal investigator (PI); the COPD project is in collaboration with the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, under the guidance of Academician Nanshan Zhong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with Professor Shi-Yue Li, vice-chairman of the Respiratory Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, serving as the PI. Meanwhile, the group is advancing its R&D pipeline of precursor cell-based drugs for various organs, including the uterus, pancreas, liver, kidneys, and stomach, to treat conditions like uterine infertility, ulcerative colitis, and cirrhosis, continuously strengthening its R&D capabilities and remaining at the forefront of industry technology.
