Government of Karnataka

It is an elected body with the governor as the constitutional head. The governor, who is appointed for a five-year term, appoints the chief minister and appoints his council of ministers based on the advice of the chief minister. Although the governor remains the ceremonial head of the state, the daily operation of the government is managed by the chief minister and his large council of ministers, which holds legislative power.
