Basic Information
Gyroscope Therapeutics, headquartered in London and founded by Syncona and Cambridge Enterprise, is dedicated to developing gene therapies for eye diseases associated with an imbalanced complement system. The company’s lead investigational therapy, GT005, aims to restore balance to the complement system to slow or halt the progression of dry AMD. Currently, this therapy is in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial where patients receive a single dose via subretinal injection. Meanwhile, the company is also developing surgical devices and procedures designed to safely and precisely deliver a one-time treatment to the eye. The Subretinal Delivery System (Orbit SDS) is intended to allow surgeons to access an area of the eye known as the "subretinal space" without removing the vitreous (the gel-like substance that fills the eye) or creating a hole in the retina. This is significant because it may increase the likelihood of treatment success by delivering therapy to critical target tissues while keeping the vitreous and retina intact.
