Basic Information
Glucon Inc. has developed a continuous non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device for the treatment of diabetes. The device is based on proprietary photoacoustic sensing technology. When photons are selectively absorbed in the tissue, the photoacoustic effect converts short light pulses into ultrasonic signals. By positioning the sensor over a blood vessel, traditional ultrasound imaging algorithms can be used to isolate the ultrasonic signals from that vessel from other tissue layers. Once the blood vessel is isolated, Glucon's device can measure optical properties exclusively within the blood vessel, which increases the sensitivity and specificity of glucose measurement.
