Basic Information

GliaCure Aims to Develop Novel Therapies for Brain Neurological and Neuropsychiatric Disorders. The company's approach is based on glial targets, a type of brain cell previously overlooked in drug discovery. GliaCure has developed a small-molecule clinical candidate, GC021109, targeting glial cells, which engages downstream mechanisms with two primary effects: the stimulation of phagocytosis and an anti-inflammatory action that reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. GC021109 is currently being developed primarily as a disease-modifying therapy for Alzheimer’s disease; however, its dual actions of phagocytosis stimulation and anti-inflammation hold potential for impacting other diseases. In addition to the program utilizing GC021109, GliaCure also has a pipeline program focused on developing treatments targeting astrocyte-related mechanisms associated with other conditions such as depression and sleep consolidation.
