Genoscience Pharma was founded by Philippe Halfon, a renowned expert in the field of infectious diseases. Initially, Genoscience Pharma focused on developing antiviral compounds against the hepatitis C virus. Several protease inhibitors were developed, leading to the discovery of a new chemical entity family that inhibits autophagy and effectively resists the hepatitis C virus. Due to encouraging results of its autophagy inhibitor drug candidates in cancer stem cell lines, Genoscience Pharma has repositioned its focus towards oncology, where medical needs remain unmet.
