Basic Information
Functional Neuromodulation is advancing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy to help improve the lives of patients with mild Alzheimer's disease. Founded in 2010 by Andres Lozano, M.D., Ph.D., the scientific founder and lead inventor, the company is investigating the use of deep brain stimulation therapy (DBS-f) to drive neural activity and modulate memory circuits in the brain. FNM has established a strategic investment partnership with Boston Scientific. Genesis Capital is also an investor. The company completed this advanced study, a multi-center feasibility study of DBS-f in 42 patients with mild Alzheimer's disease. This advanced study was also supported by a translational grant of up to $2.75 million from the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health. Based on promising progress in results, FNM is conducting a Phase III trial, known as Progress II, to determine the safety and efficacy of DBS-f for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. In 2017, DBS-f for Alzheimer’s disease received CE marking (approval by European regulatory authorities).
