Basic Information
ANRS (National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis) was established in 1988 to promote, evaluate, coordinate, and fund research projects in the field of HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis, regardless of the scientific domain involved (basic research, clinical research, epidemiology, human and social sciences, public health research, vaccine research). Since 2012, ANRS has been an autonomous institution of Inserm. Its 2019 budget was 43.8 million euros. It is the only public institution in Europe dedicated to scientific animation and funding research on HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis. ANRS provides financial support to research projects through two annual calls for projects, which are assessed by an international expert committee. This mechanism is supplemented by extra-project funding.
