Basic Information
Agierend in the growth of the international market for life sciences and medical/(bio)medical technology, the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT), founded in 1987 and established as a technology developer and equipment manufacturer for customers worldwide since 1992. As one of the six founding members of the Fraunhofer Society's Integrated Life Sciences Association, it works closely with clients from industry and public and private sectors in the fields of laboratory technology, healthcare treatment, and diagnostics. The institute’s strategic focus is on biomedicine/medical technology (especially non-invasive, minimally invasive, and miniaturized approaches), biotechnology, implants, cryotechnology for biobanks, and stem cell research. Forward-looking developments include automation in laboratory technology, mobile specialized laboratories (S3, GMP, GCLP, etc.), and IT-based healthcare solutions, completing the portfolio of Fraunhofer IBMT. Decades of expertise in biotechnology and medical research and development allow for the resolution of various purely technical tasks. In this context, special transducers for ultrasound-based level measurement, acoustic applications, sonar, microelectrodes, miniaturized manipulation systems, and automated in-vitro culture devices should be highlighted.
