Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy is an organization that supports families with members affected by this disease and promotes research into the treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Spinal muscular atrophy is a group of diseases that affect all age groups, from newborns to adults. Lower spinal muscular atrophy includes the following conditions: Infantile Progressive Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Werdnig-Hoffmann disease), Juvenile Progressive Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Kugelberg-Welander disease), and Adult Progressive Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis type).
