Basic Information
Eyevensys is a clinical-stage private biotechnology company developing its innovative EyeCET platform to enable continuous production of therapeutic proteins within the eye for the treatment of a wide range of ophthalmic diseases. EyeCET, which stands for Electroporation of the Ciliary Muscle, utilizes electroporation technology to deliver plasmids encoding therapeutic proteins inside the eye. EyeCET is safe, non-viral, and enables ciliary muscle cells to continuously produce therapeutic proteins locally. Eyevensys believes that its EyeCET technology can improve both short-term and long-term treatment outcomes, greatly enhance patient compliance, and significantly increase treatment tolerability. Eyevensys' lead product, EYS606, is a novel drug candidate for the potential treatment of non-infectious uveitis (NIU), the fourth leading cause of blindness worldwide. EYS606 uses Eyevensys’ proprietary Electroporation Transfection Injection System (ETIS) to deliver a plasmid encoding an anti-TNF-α cytokine, which has been shown to play a key role in mediating intraocular inflammation in NIU. In February 2017, EYS606 received regulatory approval from the UK MHRA and French ANSM health authorities to initiate Phase I/II clinical trials.
