Medical Device Works has developed a disposable system that allows for an increased dose of necessary chemotherapy in the liver while protecting other organs. Chemotherapy can cause severe side effects such as hair loss, vomiting, and fatigue. The intended purpose of killing cancer cells is ineffective for treating organ-specific cancer metastases, such as in the liver or lungs. Medical Device Works has pioneered the development of minimally invasive catheter-based devices that enable localized chemotherapy, targeting only the affected organs and completely eradicating cancer cells. At the same time, the catheter temporarily blocks blood flow to "isolate" the organ, preventing the drug from spilling over into other parts of the body, thereby avoiding adverse side effects.
