Cardeas Pharma is developing a novel two-drug antibiotic formulation that exhibits synergistic activity against all relevant highly resistant Gram-negative bacilli, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. Additionally, the antibiotic formulation is active against biofilms. The combination also demonstrates activity against Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The formulation is administered using a vibrating mesh nebulizer designed for single-patient use and compatible with all ventilators. The nebulizer generates small and uniform aerosol droplets, delivering the medication to the small airways and alveoli. Compared to current standard therapies, the integration of this novel antibiotic formulation and device holds the potential to achieve significant clinical outcomes.
