Cantabio Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a preclinical biotechnology company focused on commercializing novel therapeutic approaches and intellectual property generated from the company’s research and development activities in Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and other related neurodegenerative diseases. The company’s pipeline includes four major programs developing small molecule disease-modifying drugs targeting both well-established targets such as tau for Alzheimer’s and other tauopathies (e.g., CTE), as well as novel targets in DJ-1, a multifunctional defensive protein with many key roles in protecting cells from biochemical stress. DJ-1 is genetically linked to Parkinson’s disease, has been shown to be implicated in the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease, and is associated with many other diseases including type 2 diabetes, male infertility, and aging-related conditions. Cantabio’s work on intrinsically disordered proteins was listed as one of the "Top 10 Emerging Technologies to Change the World in 2019" in a report by the World Economic Forum. Cantabio is one of the few companies able to therapeutically target this particular promising drug target in Alzheimer’s and cancer.
