Calypso Biotech SA is an immunotherapy biotechnology company spun off from Merck Serono. It discovers and develops monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of immunopathologies with significant unmet medical needs. Calypso Biotech's portfolio includes two preclinical therapeutic antibodies that intercept key immune checkpoints involved in various immunopathologies.Calypso Biotech SA’s leading project, CALY-002, is a first-in-class therapeutic antibody that binds to and neutralizes interleukin-15 (IL-15). IL-15 plays multiple roles in the immune system by regulating the balance and activation of T, B, and NK cells, but has recently also emerged as a major driver of tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) in disease. As such, CALY-002 holds the potential to be a game-changing treatment across multiple indications involving TRM cells. The diseases targeted by Calypso Biotech SA have sharply increased in recent years due to changes in diet and lifestyle, possibly mediated through alterations in the microbiome. Among these, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an emerging immunopathology driven by food antigens, causing severe swallowing difficulties and poor quality of life in both children and adults. Treatment options for EoE are very limited, and Calypso Biotech SA has demonstrated strong potential for its anti-IL-15 CALY-002 antibody. CALY-002 has received orphan drug designation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for EoE.Calypso Biotech SA is headquartered in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and has offices and laboratories in Geneva (Switzerland).
