Calixa Therapeutics

Calixa Therapeutics, Inc. is a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel cephalosporins to address the growing issue of multidrug-resistant bacteria. The treatment of infections caused by resistant Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is considered an unmet medical need by the infectious disease community. Calixa's lead product, CXA-101, is an intravenous formulation of a novel cephalosporin with superior potency, especially against multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which sets it apart from other cephalosporins. It is known that no similar drugs are currently in development. Calixa plans to use this product in combination with a β-lactamase inhibitor; the combined product (CXA-201) has the potential to become a first-line treatment option for hospitalized patients with serious infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria.
