Betaliq, established through the collaboration between Novaliq GmbH and BLP Management Group, LLC, was founded with the purpose of developing ophthalmic β-blockers using Novaliq’s patented EyeSol® water-free formulation technology.EyeSol® is the first and only water-free eye drop technology for ophthalmic products. Compared to traditional eye drops, the EyeSol® technology offers significant advantages, including a droplet size approximately one-fourth that of a water-based drop. This smaller droplet size has the potential to result in reduced systemic absorption. Other benefits of EyeSol® include longer ocular retention time, better penetration, and no need for toxic preservatives.Betaliq is developing two β-blockers for the treatment of glaucoma. BTQ 1901 is a potent selective β-blocker formulation based on EyeSol, which has not been previously used in glaucoma treatment. BTQ 1902 is a timolol-based formulation utilizing EyeSol, representing the most commonly used β-blocker.β-blockers are one of the most frequently prescribed drug classes for the treatment of glaucoma. They reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by blocking sympathetic nerve endings in the ciliary epithelium, leading to decreased aqueous humor production. β-blockers are often used in combination with other glaucoma medications.
