Basic Information
AuRx Herpes Therapy is believed to work through cell-mediated immunity (CMI). It is based on growing evidence that recurrent disease is associated with a predominance of immunoregulatory T cells [helper type 2 (Th2)], which function to downregulate the ability of virus-specific CMI to control viral replication. AuRx therapy shifts the balance of virus-specific T cells towards a predominance of protective T cells [helper type 1 (Th1) T cells] and CD8+ killer (cytotoxic) T cells. These cells cause lysis of virus-infected cells. Soluble mediators are released, initiating a response cascade that includes elevated levels of interferon γ, a stimulus for Th1 responses, which also inhibits HSV reactivation in latently infected ganglia.
