Avery Biomedical Devices

In collaboration with Roger E. Avery, the prototype of Glenn was commercially sold by Avery Laboratories, Inc. in 1971. The Medical Device Amendments of 1976 required the classification and regulation of medical devices, and in 1986, the Medical Device Amendments were enacted into law under FDA regulations. In January 1987, Avery became one of the first to receive PMA approval under this regulation.
