Avanti Polar Lipids

Avanti Polar Lipids was founded by Dr. Walter A. Shaw in 1967, originating from Dr. Shaw's own need for high-purity phosphatidylcholine for lipoprotein lipase assays. The excess material he produced was evaluated and purchased by Grand Island Biological Company (GIBCO, now part of Invitrogen/Thermo Fisher Scientific), and Avanti was soon born. Dr. Shaw's vision was to provide scientists with the highest quality lipid products, thereby eliminating the uncertainty associated with questionable lipid reagents. This vision continues to guide the company.
