Basic Information

Biotech Support Group LLC, founded in 2004 by Dr. Swapan Roy, who conducted biotechnology research at major pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Roy developed a new polymer coating – called NuGel™, which pioneered porous silica-based chromatography for bioseparation. However, the "omics" revolution demands new and different sample preparation separations that cannot be efficiently performed by traditional techniques. Over the years, protein separation toolkits have been limited to liquid chromatography and gel electrophoresis. While effective for many applications, these tools are not efficient for "omics" sample preparation when throughput, economy, and simplicity are required. Moreover, these same separation tools often denature proteins, limiting their use in applications requiring the measurement of function, structure, or biological activity. The retention of such functional and structural properties is essential for functional proteomics and the enrichment of enzyme biomarkers, a crucial new area in translational research. The company's mission now serves the explosive growth in proteomic sample preparation with unique and proprietary surface chemistries. We are committed to creating new methods and applications to drive efficient workflows and better data quality for all downstream proteomics and biomarker analyses. While selective protein binding is the focus of surface chemistry, the products cross into other "omics" fields, finding applications in genomics and DNA separation, and now metabolomics.
