Biota Holdings Limited is an Australian company engaged in the discovery and development of anti-infective drugs and their commercialization. Biota developed a class neuraminidase inhibitor, which was subsequently marketed by GlaxoSmithKline as Relenza. Relenza is used for the treatment of seasonal influenza. Biota's research achievements include nucleoside analogs for the treatment of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infections, licensed to Boehringer Ingelheim, and a series of drug candidates aimed at treating Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) diseases. Biota is currently conducting clinical trials on its lead compound for Human Rhinovirus (HRV) infections in patients with compromised respiratory or immune systems. Additionally, the company is collaborating with Daiichi Sankyo to develop second-generation influenza antiviral drugs. In March 2010, the company completed the acquisition of MaxThera Inc.'s antibacterial assets.
