Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) refers to degraded DNA fragments released into the plasma after the death of diseased or normal cells. cfDNA can be used to describe various forms of freely circulating DNA in the blood, including circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA), thus becoming a biomarker in cancer and fetal medicine. Additionally, it can be applied in a variety of diseases, including sepsis, sterile inflammation, transplantation, etc.
