Developer of Implantable Deep Brain Stimulation Systems

Basic Information

Aleva Neurotherapeutics has developed the next generation of implantable deep brain stimulation systems based on MEMS technology. Our unique microfabrication devices enable targeted stimulation and optimization of current therapies. They will also allow measurement of new brain regions and neurophysiological activity, translating into faster and more precise electrode lead placement during surgery. The first application will be deep brain stimulation for indications such as Parkinson's disease and essential tremor. To maximize the value its technology can capture, Aleva plans to develop a series of two therapeutic products while mitigating technological and clinical development risks at each stage. Our first product, directSTIM, is a smart directional electrode connected to a best-in-class deep brain stimulation system, which successfully completed acute clinical trials at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. It is currently being further developed for long-term use. Founded in 2008 and based in Lausanne, Switzerland, Aleva has raised $42 million USD from prominent venture capital firms, private investors, and strategic investors to date. The company is ISO13485 certified.
