Basic Information
Alopexx Vaccine, LLC is developing vaccines targeting proprietary antigen targets - dPNAG. This target, developed by Dr. Gerald B. Pier of Harvard Medical School and his colleagues, shows great promise as a vaccine against various pathogens and infections. The company's lead compound, AV0328, is a conjugated oligosaccharide of dPNAG that elicits protective antibody responses against numerous microbial pathogens associated with human and animal infections. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Pier's laboratory has focused on the role of β-1-6 polymers of N-acetylglucosamine (PNAG) in virulence and as a vaccine target. PNAG is expressed on the surfaces of various bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, essentially functioning as a conserved capsule. PNAG has been shown to be a key factor in the virulence of many organisms and possesses a profound ability to evade triggering effective immune responses. Bacterial strains that lose the ability to produce PNAG often exhibit significantly reduced capacity to cause infections.
