American Board of Toxicology, Inc. was established on April 17, 1979, in the District of Columbia as a self-sufficient nonprofit corporation. The purpose of ABT is: to encourage research in toxicology, to stimulate its development by establishing professional practice standards, to prepare and administer programs, including testing for the enforcement of these standards, and to grant recognition of professional competence through certificates or other means to qualified professionals.
