Basic Information
Micreos Develops the World's First Targeted Antibacterial Product to Replace AntibioticsMicreos has developed the world's first targeted antibacterial product designed to replace antibiotics. Utilizing Micreos' endolysin technology, it is now possible for the first time to kill only unwanted bacteria (including antibiotic-resistant strains such as MRSA), while leaving our microbiome (including billions of beneficial bacteria on the skin and in the gut) intact. Furthermore, studies have shown that the use of endolysins does not lead to resistance. This introduces a new approach to managing bacteria around us: killing harmful bacteria while protecting the microbiome. Micreos has developed a new drug that effectively avoids problems caused by the overuse of antibiotics. It is reported that the inspiration for the new drug comes from a naturally occurring virus that uses an enzyme called "endolysin" to attack bacteria by breaking down their cell walls. Researchers have "enhanced" this enzyme, strengthening its adhesion and destructive power on the surface of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
