Altaeros Energy has developed airborne wind turbines to produce abundant, low-cost renewable energy. The company manufactures buoyant airborne turbines, a renewable energy solution that integrates proven aerospace and wind turbine technology, as well as high-altitude winds, an untapped renewable energy resource. It provides products to customers across various industries, including rural communities, islands and arctic communities, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, recreation, emergency and disaster relief, military installations, and offshore power.Altaeros Energy has secured funding for wind turbine technology development from multiple sources, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Science Foundation, the California Energy Commission, the Maine Technology Institute, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, Clean Technology Innovation New England, and the Alaska Energy Authority. Additionally, Altaeros Energy was awarded the 2011 ConocoPhillips Energy Prize.The company was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts.
