Synergy Pharmaceuticals, founded in 1992, is a pharmaceutical company based in New York, USA, specializing in the development of drugs for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. The company was a pioneer in developing GI disease treatments centered around uroguanylin analogs. Currently, Synergy's GI research and development platform has launched two products: one is the commercially available product TRULANCE (plecanatide), indicated for patients with chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C); the other is dolcanatide, a product candidate still in the development stage, intended for patients suffering from opioid-induced constipation (OIC) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Both products will soon be acquired by Bausch Health to enrich its core gastrointestinal disease portfolio and drive further growth.
