Cyteir Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing next-generation precision oncology drugs that inhibit DNA repair and promote cancer cell death through a therapeutic strategy known as synthetic lethality. Synthetic lethality represents a clinically validated drug development approach that occurs when two conditions, individually tolerated but jointly lethal, are defective within a cell. Our lead program is CYT-0851, and our next-generation candidate, CYT-1853, leverages a novel gain-of-function synthetic lethal relationship between the overexpression of a family of DNA damage genes called cytidine deaminases (CDs) and the functional inhibition of homologous recombination (HR), a DNA repair pathway critical for the survival of certain cancers. CYT-0851 is a novel, orally available small molecule inhibitor of RAD51-mediated HR, and to our knowledge, is the only RAD51-mediated HR inhibitor currently in clinical development.
