Basic Information

Eckerd Corporation is a drugstore chain headquartered in Largo, Florida. The chain has approximately 2,800 stores across 23 states, stretching westward to Arizona. In November 1996, Eckerd Corporation was acquired by J.C. Penney. In April 2004, the company (then a subsidiary of JCPenney) was spun off for $4.52 billion. Around 1,269 stores located in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, along with a mail-order pharmacy valued at $1.3 billion, were sold to CVS Corporation (now CVS Health). This transaction gave CVS approximately 5,400 stores, allowing it to surpass its competitor Walgreens.
