Vital Therapies, Inc. is a biotherapeutic company dedicated to developing cell-based therapies for the treatment of acute liver failure. The company's lead product, the ELAD® System or ELAD, is a bioartificial liver therapy that operates either extracorporeally or externally, designed to allow the patient’s own liver to recover to a healthy state or stabilize the patient until a liver transplant can be performed. ELAD is an allogeneic cell therapy system incorporating our proprietary human liver-derived C3A cells, which are contained within four hollow fiber cartridges, combined with a custom single-use disposable device and a reusable bedside unit. Data from ELAD clinical studies indicate the potential to improve survival rates in patients with acute liver failure.
