Anika Therapeutics, Inc., founded in Massachusetts in 1992, develops, manufactures, and markets therapeutic products for the protection, treatment, and repair of human tissues. The product technology is based on hyaluronic acid, also known as HA, a naturally occurring biocompatible polymer found throughout the body. Due to its unique physicochemical properties, HA plays a crucial role in many physiological functions, such as the protection and lubrication of soft tissues and joints, maintenance of tissue structural integrity, and transport of molecules within and outside cells. Anika Therapeutics S.r.l, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anika Therapeutics, Inc., currently has more than 20 products primarily targeting the European market. These products are manufactured using hyaluronic acid and two technologies: HYAFF, the solid form of HA; and ACP gel, a self-crosslinked polymer of HA. Both technologies hold patented rights in various fields.
