Basic Information
Epix Therapeutics (Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics, Inc.) is a medical device company that designs and manufactures catheter systems for AFIB patients. The company's mission is to significantly improve the treatment of AFIB by introducing products based on its proprietary catheter and generator system. EPIX’s technology is the world’s only system capable of utilizing three unique features: temperature sensing and feedback, low irrigation flow rate, and high-resolution electrogram attenuation. The DiamondTempTM system is limited to investigational use in the United States. Established in 2007, the company pioneered the development of catheter ablation solutions for treating atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. In 2014, industry veteran Duke Rohlen joined as chairman and CEO. Rohlen built a team to develop a new technology, the DiamondTempTM radiofrequency ablation system, aimed at treating AFIB patients. In late 2017, the DiamondTempTM system received the CE mark for the device, along with FDA approval for an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) application to initiate a 480-subject, multi-center, global, pivotal trial (Diamond-AF) to treat patients with persistent AFIB. DiamondTempTM is a medical device subject to applicable national and/or regional regulations. Atrial fibrillation, a condition where improper electrical impulses cause irregular heartbeats, is one of the most prevalent heart diseases globally, currently affecting approximately 6 million people in the United States alone. Irregular heartbeats can lead to an increased risk of stroke and a significant decline in the quality of life for those affected. Catheter ablation has proven to be a safe, effective, and cost-efficient treatment for atrial fibrillation. The catheter ablation market is one of the fastest-growing medical device markets today.
