Sanford Health

Sanford Health, a non-profit and integrated healthcare service organization with a long history, is headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The predecessor of Sanford Health can be traced back to Sioux Falls Hospital in 1894 and St. Luke's Hospital in the early 20th century. Over the next 80 years, these two hospitals developed into comprehensive healthcare organizations known as Sioux Valley Health System and MeritCare Health System, respectively. In 2007, following a $400 million donation from Denny Sanford, Sioux Valley Health System was officially renamed Sanford Health. On November 2, 2009, Sanford Health acquired MeritCare. In 2011 and 2012, Sanford Health completed mergers with Bemidji and Medcenter One Health Systems, respectively.Sanford Health operates 44 hospitals and has approximately 28,000 employees.
