LGC (Laboratory of the Government Chemist) was established in 1842 as the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in the United Kingdom. It was privatized in 1996, forming LGC Limited. The company is a market leader in laboratory services, measurement standards, reference materials, and laboratory proficiency testing. With a history spanning 170 years, LGC has evolved into a corporate group comprising the following divisions: LGC Standards, LGC Forensics, LGC Genomics, LGC Science and Technology, and LGC Health Sciences. The group’s technical expertise covers fundamental research areas including R&D and quality control, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, forensic science, life sciences, food chain and environmental safety monitoring. Additionally, LGC plays a central role in numerous projects aimed at enhancing testing standards and improving testing capabilities within government and industrial sectors. LGC was acquired by KKR in 2015.
