NovoCure is a multinational company focused on oncology treatment, developing a completely different cancer therapy with its core being a proprietary treatment called TTFields, which uses electric fields tuned to specific frequencies to disrupt the division of solid tumor cells.In May 2020, the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved the registration of NovoCure's innovative product, the "Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) Therapy Device," after review.The product consists of an electric field generator, field applicators, power adapter, battery, battery charger, connection cables, junction box, and optional accessories. It is suitable for patients aged 22 years and older who have been diagnosed with recurrent supratentorial glioblastoma or newly diagnosed supratentorial glioblastoma through histopathological or imaging methods.This product is the first medical device to utilize the principle of electric fields inhibiting cell division, suppressing the mitosis process of tumor cells via alternating electric fields, thereby achieving an inhibitory effect on glioblastoma. Currently, there are no similar products approved for marketing in China.The product can serve as another treatment option for glioblastoma patients following surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. As a wearable device, it adopts a non-invasive method for patient treatment, with relatively low clinical use risk. It has demonstrated certain efficacy in delaying tumor progression, extending patient survival, and improving quality of life.
