Akero Therapeutics

Akero is a clinical-stage company aimed at developing transformative therapies for patients with serious metabolic diseases, which are characterized by highly unmet medical needs. We started with an engineered protein named efruxifermin (EFX), which we licensed from Amgen and are developing for the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH is a severe liver disease caused by metabolic dysfunction, and currently, there are no approved treatments. EFX is a differentiated Fc-FGF21 fusion protein, engineered to mimic the balanced biological activity of native FGF21, an endogenous hormone that alleviates cellular stress and regulates systemic metabolism.
