Perlara was founded in 2014 as the first biotechnology public benefit corporation (bioPBC). Our commitment to sustainability, open science and business, and patient equity has guided our approach from the very beginning. Our base in the Bay Area has enabled us to assemble an amazing team of scientists and advanced laboratories. Our mission is to accelerate the discovery of treatments for rare genetic diseases and uncover underlying mechanisms. To achieve this, we have developed the PerlArk™ drug discovery platform, which creates patient avatars using simple animals with genes similar to humans, allowing us to rapidly and cost-effectively screen a large number of disease models and drug candidates.
