Basic Information
EIR Biopharma, Inc. is an early-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapeutics for ocular diseases. The founding team of the company collectively possesses over 50 years of senior management experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and biopharmaceutical industries, having held leadership positions at companies such as Intercept Pharmaceuticals, Iovance Biotherapeutics, and GT Biopharma. Our strategy is to negotiate licensing agreements for the global exclusive development rights to treatments for ocular diseases; we focus on preclinical drug candidates that have the potential to address clear clinical needs and can be advanced to clinical stages within 14 to 18 months with an investment of several million dollars. Our core preclinical assets are licensed from prestigious research institutions, including Weill Cornell Medicine of Cornell University and the University of Miami. EIR-0205, a small molecule drug licensed from Cornell University, is intended for the treatment of atrophic "dry" age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). EIR-0205 is a functionalized cyclodextrin designed to remove lipofuscin — metabolic waste that accumulates in retinal pigment epithelial cells, leading to retinal degeneration and subsequently causing dry AMD. EIR-1003, a peptidomimetic candidate drug licensed from the University of Miami, is designed to mimic ephrin ligands. Signaling between ephrin receptors and ephrin ligands regulates the directed growth of retinal ganglion cell axons and dendrites toward the visual centers of the brain. Research conducted by the University of Miami has shown that treatment with EIR-1003 in animal models of optic nerve injury promotes nerve regeneration. We are advancing EIR-1003 into animal toxicology studies in preparation for submitting an IND application to the FDA; human clinical trials are currently planned to commence in the first half of 2027.
