Anaeropharma Science is a privately held biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, established in 2004. It is dedicated to developing novel therapies targeting the hypoxic environment of this cancer based on its proprietary platform technology, i-DPS (in-situ Delivery and Production System), utilizing recombinant bifidobacteria. The company’s research team discovered and reported that when bifidobacteria are intravenously injected into tumor-bearing mice, the bacteria specifically accumulate in solid tumors. Bifidobacteria, which are obligate anaerobes, exist as gut flora in humans and many mammals and have long been recognized as non-pathogenic bacteria. In fact, they have already been used in health foods and similar products. The company aims to leverage recombinant bifidobacteria technology to create a new class of anticancer drugs.
