Basic Information
Geneus Technologies, founded in 2017, is a high-tech company dedicated to developing and commercializing the fourth-generation (nanopore) gene sequencers and reagents. Its technological core is based on the characteristic current signals generated by the interaction between protein nanopores and nucleic acid bases, achieving high-throughput sequencing of nucleic acids at the single-molecule level through a highly integrated chip system. With Nobel Prize work participants and world-leading nanopore sequencing experts as its core, Geneus Technologies has formed a research and development team comprising senior experts from both China and the United States in fields such as biochemistry, integrated circuits, materials, MEMS, organic synthesis, and algorithms, covering nearly all professional areas required for the development of fourth-generation gene sequencers. The goal of Geneus Technologies is not only to rely on independently developed intellectual property rights to break foreign monopolies in sequencing equipment and reagents but also to completely surpass the currently popular second-generation sequencing technology in key metrics such as sequencing data quality (read length, sensitivity, coverage, etc.) and cost with revolutionary technological breakthroughs. This will disrupt the existing sequencing landscape, achieving the goal of "a few hundred yuan, a few hours" for whole genome sequencing, promoting the comprehensive advancement of human whole-genome sequencing into clinical applications, thus driving the development of precision medicine in both diagnosis and treatment, and becoming a leader in the related global market worth up to 600 billion US dollars. Since its establishment, Geneus Technologies has received numerous honors and special funding, including Sichuan Province's major science and technology special project in 2018, an excellent award in the national finals of China's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2019, and the champion of the Sichuan division. Currently, Geneus Technologies has an elite team of 28 members, all with a bachelor’s degree or higher, including two members of the Sichuan Thousand Talents Plan, one Rong Piao expert, five Ph.D.s, and more than 20 master’s degree holders; it owns precision equipment such as Agilent liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, AKTA protein purification system, NGC protein purification system, Axon patch-clamp amplifier, Agilent analytical HPLC, Bio-tek microplate reader, DNA synthesizer, Grace preparative HPLC, Beckman centrifuge, Bio-Rad PCR machine, and Nano-100 micro-spectrophotometer. Geneus Technologies possesses a fully independent intellectual property rights technical route, has applied for nine national invention patents and PCT priority rights, and obtained two integrated circuit layout design exclusive rights. In terms of technical characteristics, the deep modification of the biochemical system, including nanopore proteins, can capture effective sequencing signals more accurately; the innovative chip design allows the integration level of sequencing units on a single chip to reach tens of millions, far higher than the integration level of similar products currently on the market. Therefore, compared with mainstream second-generation sequencers in terms of data quality and cost, it has overwhelming advantages, and compared with other fourth-generation sequencer competitors, the target product of this project has outstanding advantages in accuracy, efficiency, and cost reduction potential.
