Viela Bio

Viela Bio was spun off from MedImmune, AstraZeneca's global biologics research and development arm, in February 2018 to become an independent biopharmaceutical company focused on treating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The newly independent Viela Bio acquired three preclinical drug candidates and three clinical-stage drug candidates from MedImmune. Among them, inebilizumab, which is already in Phase 2 clinical trials, is part of Viela Bio’s pipeline. This investigational new drug is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica and has been granted Orphan Drug Designation by both the U.S. FDA and the European EMA.
