DeepSeek, fully known as "Hangzhou DeepSeek AI Fundamental Technology Research Co., Ltd.," also referred to as "DeepSeek," was founded by High-Frequency Quantitative on July 17, 2023. Located in the Gongshu District of Hangzhou, it is an innovative technology company focused on developing advanced large language models (LLM) and related technologies.On January 5, 2024, the company released its first large model, DeepSeek LLM. Subsequently, models such as DeepSeek-Coder, DeepSeek-VL, DeepSeek V2, and DeepSeek V3 were launched. Among them, the DeepSeek V2 model gained industry attention for its outstanding performance in comprehensive Chinese language evaluations and extremely low inference costs, earning it the nickname "the Pinduoduo of the AI world." On January 20, 2025, the company officially released the DeepSeek-R1 model and simultaneously open-sourced the model weights. The performance of DeepSeek-R1 approaches that of OpenAI o1's official version, but its inference cost is only a small fraction of OpenAI o1's. On January 27, the DeepSeek app topped the free App download rankings in the U.S. Apple App Store, surpassing ChatGPT in the U.S. download chart. On the same day, the free app rankings in the China Apple App Store showed that DeepSeek ranked first in China.
